About This Product
Students start with how we see objects and the straight-line travel of light, then make shadows and model solar and lunar eclipses. Rays traced on the board show reflection from flat and curved mirrors, refraction through prisms with Snell’s law and the critical angle for total internal reflection, and image formation by lenses on the rail. The eye model is used to show and correct short and long sight, and a prism splits white light before colour filters are added.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can total internal reflection be shown with the Light and its phenomena kit?
Yes. Rays from the projector are passed through the semicircular prism on the ray board to find the critical angle and show total internal reflection.
How are eye defects demonstrated?
The variable-focus eye model is set up to show short sight (myopia) and long sight (hyperopia), and extra lenses are added to correct them.
